Sacral Nerve stimulation

When patients struggle with pelvic floor disorders that include urge incontinence, urinary frequency, voiding dysfunction, urinary retention and/or fecal incontinence one option for management includes the stimulation of the dysfunctional nerves involved in these problems.  I trained with the physician - Dr. Rick Schmidt - who invented this technology, and I am the director of a center of excellence in neuromodulation directly related to this breakthrough technology.  While it often is used for the management of organ dysfunction more than half the patients that struggle with pelvic pain issues will also find benefit with this therapy.  Using a simple office-based approach a small lead (wire electrode) can be placed next to the appropriate nerve and then your response to therapy can be determined.  If success is demonstrated, a small battery is attached to the lead with a permanent implant.  This system is paid for by insurance and in my hands has over a 90% success rate for various pelvic floor disorders.
