Why does phsical therapy make me worse?

Your provider will often schedule an evaluation and treatment with a physical therapist for the management of various pelvic floor disorders.  But just like a personal trainer who is trying to help you at the gym, if the physical therapist works the muscles too vigorously and does not enter into your program of rehabilitation slowly it can make your symptoms-including your pelvic pain-worse.  A recent study showed that 56% of patients experienced a flare in their pain symptoms as a result of manual physical therapy.  If this does occur, you may require additional components to the management of your pelvic floor pain including muscle relaxers or SoLá therapy.  One of the best tricks to prevent this kind of flare is the use of compounded suppositories made of muscle relaxers like baclofen immediately after physical therapy.
